A Protection and Advocacy Agency, will be an Agency which provides Legal Services for Persons with Disabilities.

There will be a Protection and Advocacy Agency to serve all parts of the United States, as it is Federally mandated that there be such an agency in each and every state.

How do I find the Agency which serves my state?

Go to www.NDRN.org then click on About Us and then click on PA'S and CAPS. You will then be asked to enter your state
and then you will find listings for P&A'S (Protection and Advocacy Agencies) which service your state.

Most P&A'S are staffed by legal personnel who are interested in serving persons with disabilities.

Each agency will offer some of the same services as another agency but may also offer more or less services than an agency in another state.

The P&A which serves the Cook County Area is Equip For Equality you can visit their website at www.equipforequality.org , states the following:

That it has broad federal and state statutory powers, including access to private and public facilities, service recipients and their records.

Its far-reaching initiatives and programs also serve as a catalyst for social change by breaking down barriers that prevent people with disabilities from fully participating in community life. The organization also serves as an independent watchdog over public and private facilities and programs to ensure that they deliver quality services.

Again each agency will differ as far as services they provide. So if you have a legal problem and are a person with a disability including special education call your local P&A.
